Hi Tony,

I've benefited greatly from Theological Meditations.

My daily devotional this year is Voices from the Past, Vol. 2 edited by Richard Rushing, published by The Banner of Truth Trust, copyright 2019 (made available through Begg's Truth for Life). The reading for November 11 (p. 318) is an excerpt from Flavel's The Fountain of Life, pp. 29-31. I checked the website and didn't see this reference so I'm passing it on to you in case you find it useful. Quoting partially from that excerpt:

"Consider what a grievous thing it is to the Father, to see his dear Son despised, slighted, and rejected by sinners. What a serious word is this--'If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema!' (1 Cor. 16:22, KJV). O sinners, you shall one day know the cost of this sin! O, that you would slight him no more. O that this day your hearts might fall in love with him. There is no love so valuable as his. If Christ lay eternally in the bosom of the Father's love, and yet was content to forsake it for you, then, Christians, should we not be ready to forsake all the comforts we have on earth for Christ? Moses left the glory of Egypt, and Peter and the other apostles left all! What we have to leave is of no comparison to what he left for us. Christ is the highest pattern of self-denial for us. Sinners, embrace the bosom-Son of God. Poor fellow-mortals, whatever you are or have been, under whatever guilt for discouragement you lie, embrace Christ, who is freely offered to you, and you shall be as dear to God as the most eminent believer in the world."

Thank you for your immeasurable contribution to the Faith,

Scott Ferguson
