D. A. Carson on False Dilemmas

I've just seen the following quote in a number of places now (2) and thought it was excellent. A friend of mine recently told me that all false theological systems are ultimately built on some false either/or dilemma. Not only can that be the case with respect to a system that's not Christian at all, but it can also be the case with respect to some particular doctrines that Christians themselves believe.
Damn all false antithesis to hell, for they generate false gods, they perpetuate idols, they twist and distort our souls, they launch the church into violent pendulum swings whose oscillations succeed only in dividing brothers and sisters in Christ.
Apparently it's from D. A. Carson's Becoming Conversant with the Emerging Church (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2005), 234.
